The Problem

Repair is an act of care that is disappearing.

To repair something is to declare it worth keeping. It is a relationship, a commitment, a form of memory. But fast fashion and throwaway culture have severed that connection. Repair skills are vanishing. The people who still carry them, often older or overlooked, have no platform to pass them on. And the objects that hold our stories are ending up in landfill instead of in someone's hands.

Atelier Re-Commence is a community-rooted makerspace and social enterprise. It is a blend of a welcoming café, hands-on workshops, a living textile archive, and a flexible kitchen and dining space, all under one roof and one mission: integrating repair and reuse into everyday culture.

The Four Hubs

Hub 01
Beans & Seeds Café
A cozy anchor space for gathering, conversation, and discovering circular living. Low-waste menu sourced from local vendors, community bulletin, and Repair & Sip hours.
Hub 02
The Makerspace
Hands-on repair clinics, tool library, skill certifications. Sliding-scale memberships. Partnerships with schools, libraries, and repair professionals.
Hub 03
Garment Stories
A living textile archive preserving the memories of material and culture. Community donations, story intake days, and exhibitions connecting repair to identity and memory.

The Kitchen + Dining Space
A shared kitchen and dining area available to local caterers, chefs, and community groups. Supplements the café and hosts heritage kitchen nights and community gatherings.

The Ask

Here is what we need to begin.

We are seeking founding support to validate the model through a pilot program and establish the first Atelier Re-Commence location.

Pop-up repair café and workshop series. Community demand validation. 3 to 5 anchor partner relationships.
Phase 2
First Location
Space build-out, equipment, staffing, and programming for Year 1 operations in target city.
Phase 3
Scale + Replicate
Model documentation, city 2 partnership development, and ESS certification for grant eligibility.
